There are a number of people who think installing dehumidifiers outside a grow tent is the best way to control dehumidifiers while there are other people who opt to install dehumidifiers inside the grow tent. It can create a great dilemma for the people who are looking for the installation but the thing is both groups of people are correct to some extent. The dehumidifiers can be placed both inside and outside depending upon the size and air movement of the grow tent.  You must consider the two factors before deciding to install a dehumidifier in your grow tent.

Factor Number One: The Size of the Grow tent

The most important factor to consider is the size of the grow tent. Sometimes the grow tent might not have enough space for dehumidifiers. Pulling out plants to make space for dehumidifiers is not really such a bright idea. It is better to place the dehumidifier outside the grow tent in such situations.

Factor Number Two: The Air Movement in the Grow Tent

If the extractor is too large then it is better to put the dehumidifier outside the grow tent. The most powerful dehumidifiers are known to have an air capacity of 200 cubic meters per hour. If the extractors are capable of removing more than that then it is better to put the dehumidifier outside the grow tent. Learn more on How to effectively control humidity in greenhouses?

Placing the Dehumidifier outside the Grow Tent

Let’s suppose after running through all the situation you decide to install a dehumidifier outside the grow tent. Installing a dehumidifier outside is almost identical to installing a carbon filter. We are the experts in such installation as we prepare your grow tent to have the optimal environmental condition to grow. There are two approaches to take while installing a dehumidifier outside a grow room. Option number one is to place a whole room dehumidifier and option number two is using a ducted dehumidifier in a grow room.

Option One: Use of Whole Room Dehumidifier

When going for this option we assume that the grow tent is inside a room. The air of the room is being taken by the grow tent from inside the room. In such a case, we can just simply use a whole room dehumidifier to curb down the level of the humidity of the whole room. With the drop in humidity of air in the room, the grow tent will automatically get the dry air.

Option Two: Ducted Dehumidifier

This process is a little bit complicated than option number one but it is more cost-friendly for the user. You would need some extra items in this method. First of all, you need to have items such as a cardboard box, duct tape, insulating duct, box cutter, duct flanging kit as well as a high-quality dehumidifier.

First of all, a dehumidifier should behold in a cardboard box which is of suitable size. The dehumidifier should be kept near a power source ideally to avoid extra wiring to supply power to the dehumidifier. Depending on the inlet size of the dehumidifier a hole near the ground side of the box should be made. The dehumidifier should be placed in the box in such a way that the hole is airtight as much as possible. Another hole should be cut on the other side of the box to connect the insulating duct. The intake fan is connected to the box with the help of an insulating duct. All the connections should be properly secured and the dehumidifiers can be powered up to gain dry air in the grow tent.

Placing a dehumidifier inside a grow room must be done very carefully. It is a good idea to put the dehumidifiers under the light if the airflow from the fans is good. In case more than one dehumidifier needs to be installed certain space should be maintained between the dehumidifier units.
